You may pursue this as either an individual or group assignment.  If you work in a group, there must be a distinct activity for each member of the group such that the contribution of individual members is clear.  For instance, if you were to envision a system which builds playlists in Spotify from python.  One group member might be responsible for developing the user interface, gathering data from the user which is then stored in a file and picked up by the utility which reads this file, connects to Spotify and creates the playlist.

 

In this option, you will have a chance to go a bit further and explore with Python:

• Start by exploring some task in your life that is repetitive and would be better if it could be automated

• Write out the steps that would need to be automated and consider which ones could be done by developing a program.  This may be a flow-chart or a bullet item list of steps if the process isn’t to complex.  A hand-drawn image works just as well

• What data does this application need.  Design some kind of a data model to store the data in a SQL server or in a XML/JSON format

• Write the pseudo code for the steps that will be automated.  Let’s at least make sure we know what we want the automation to look like

• Develop the automation

Submission Requirements

Your final submission should consist of an explanation of the need (what needs to be automated) and the how you went about automating it.  This can be a video, Word document, in-line in a Jupyter notebook etc.  You should also submit your code with details on how to run it.  Ambitious automations that don’t fulfill the entire scope that has been defined is okay, but there must be a design, the data model, sample data, some working code and a plan for how the group would procede if they were given more time (like, is there a technique you would need to learn?  More data to collect? ).
