PREPARE, PLAN, DESIGN ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

The goal of this phase of the project is to apply the knowledge learned, including the proposed network design framework, to design and implement a network that will meet the needs of a theoretical or real life global ISP. Reference the grading rubric to gain a more precise understanding of the requirements of each phase and the associated minimums.

The global ISP selected can align with an existing ISP in real-life operation if you choose but can also be hypothetical. Whether real-life or hypothetical, the design must incorporate the requirements listed in the project instructions and the grading rubric.

You must select a name for the proposed company, whether it is the actual name, a proxy name, or a hypothetical name. If a proxy is necessary due to security reasons, the instructor will need to know the real company name for the purpose of assessment.

If this is not possible, you will need to select a different organization. The global ISP provides many products and services to its customers outlined below. Two larger aspects of this design include:

(1) redesigning the current architecture and network of the ISP given a list of components that it currently supports, and (2) adding additional products and services that the firm has yet to support that may add a competitive advantage or increase performance of the organization.

The final network design must use relevant and current scholarly and industry research to develop the optimal solution for the ISP. The paper will follow current APA standards. Use proper spacing, headings, margins, 12-point Times New Roman font, and include a table of contents.

The 2 phases of this project will align with the Cisco PPDIOO network lifecycle. This Network Design Project Assignment will address the Prepare, Plan, and Design phases of PPDIOO.

The next Network Design Project Assignment will address the Implement, Operate, and Optimize phases of the Cisco PPDIOO network lifecycle. Quality is expected over quantity.

The grading rubric and assignment template contain more information about expectations and will ensure successful completion of this assignment. The grading rubric will define things like quality, extensibility, scalability, relevance, and testability; while the template will ensure your submission format is aligned with instructor expectations. Minimum length requirements are defined below.

These are only minimums, and your instructor will expect excellence beyond any “minimum” guideline to earn proficient scores. The general outline of the paper will include:

I. Prepare (2,000 words, minimum of 10 scholarly references) A. Introduction B. Business requirements C. Network strategy D. High-level architecture proposal II. Plan (750 words, minimum of 5 additional scholarly references)

A. Detailed network requirements B. Gap analysis III. Design (750 words, minimum of 5 additional scholarly references) A. Reliable, robust, high availability, scalable, secure, and high-performing network design B. Relevant diagrams and models to illustrate the design In addition to current ISP products and services outlined below, it will be important to develop a strategy to incorporate at least 2 additional product offerings and 2 additional service offerings at the organization.

These must be specific to the ISP industry and align with the core products and services typically offered by large ISPs. In addition to incorporating these into the network design and implementing them in the next Network Design Project Assignment, justification for why these products and services will positively influence the bottom line is critical. Using a minimum of 5 additional pages, justify the addition of the proposed products and services, taking into consideration the technical and business implications. For example:

• Can existing architecture support these products and services?

• Do these products and services align with the mission of the ISP?

• How do these products and services affect the IT strategy?

• How will these products and services influence the long-term business strategy of the organization?

• What are the technological and managerial implications of adding these to the current product line? The network design will focus on the high level components. In other words, 1 switch can exemplify a larger sub-set of switches when numerous switches are necessary. Existing components that the network design must incorporate and consider in order to develop an optimal network design include the following: I.
