Create another variable named ‘beginYear’ the same way with a beginning value of zero

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

My 1st Programming Assignment

Follow the steps listed below:

Start Raptor

Click on the icon “New”

Save your file:

Click File, Save As

Select a folder to save to (suggestion – create a CPT 114 folder)

Save file as Lastname_My_First_Prog Assignment Example: Burns_My_First_Prog_Assignment

Create variables

Click on the Assignment box and drag just below ‘Start’

Double click the Assignment box and set the variable ‘name’ to “” (double quotes)

Create another variable called ‘currentYear’ (set currentYear to 0)

Create another variable named ‘beginYear’ (the same way with a beginning value of zero)

Create another variable called ‘age’ (the same way with a beginning value of zero)

Create Input:

Click and drag the ‘Input’ shape just below the ‘age’ variable

Double click and enter the following prompt: (make sure you include the double quotes)

o “Hello, and welcome to my first program! Please enter your name.”

o And use the variable ‘name’ just below where it states “Enter Variable Here”

Create Output:

Click and drag ‘Output’ shape just below the ‘Input’ shape

Double click and enter the following: (make sure you include the double quotes)

“Hello “ + name + “ Let’s determine how old you are.”

Note – when adding variable to output to include text, you need to add the plus sign (+) in between.

This is call concatenate. Also please note the spacing after the word “Hello” and before “ Let’s determine how old you are.” That way, the text does not run into the variable.

Create a couple of new ‘Inputs’

Ask the user to enter their birth year – Click and drag the Input shape just below the last output shape. Double click and enter the following:

“What year where you born?” Enter the variable ‘beginYear’ where you enter the variable

name.

Do the same for the next input. Enter the following:

o “What is the current year?” Enter the variable ‘currentYear’ where you enter the

variable name.

Create a process (or in this case, a calculation result we can assign to the ‘age’ variable)

Click and drag the Assignment variable to just below the last Input.

Double click and add the following:

o Set currentYear – beginYear to the ‘age’ variable (you are subtracting the current year

from the beginning year in order to assign that value to the ‘age’ variable)

Create a final ‘Output’:

Click and drag the ‘Output’ shape to below the last ‘Assignment’

Double click and Enter the follow:

name + “ you are “ + age + “years old.” (note the double quotes, spacing and the plus (+) symbols)

Finally let’s add one more ‘Output’. Let’s thank the user for using your program.

Click and drag the ‘Output’ shape just below the last ‘Output’ and enter the follow:

o “Thank you ” + name + “ for using my first program!’ (again note the spacing and plus

signs)

Run your program

The results should look similar, your inputs of course may be different.

Save your program and then submit the “1st Raptor Programming Assignment” dropbox located in Assignments.
