You will need to explain what materials and methods you would use for the insulation

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

Directions: You will need to type a report (at least one page) on how and what you would use to design the exterior walls of your dream house. It will include Building Envelope, Insulation, structure, exterior vapor barrier, exterior doors & windows.  Once typed out you can drop it below in this folder.  This will NOT be acceptiable to type in the "write Submission" box below.  It has to be on a document form.

Building Envelope:

You will need to explain what materials and methods you would use for the insulation in the exterior walls as well as the vapor barrier of the exterior that will be underneath the siding such as house wrap, zip system, etc.  You will need to tell if you are using 2x4 walls or 2x6 walls.  You will also use the chart you were given in class, as well as internet for other materials not on the chart, to determine the total wall R-value of the materials used in the wall as we have done in class.

Windows/Doors:

You will need to figure out what size, style, details, etc. of all windows and doors in the exterior walls of the house. (Example: all bedrooms to have double hung, low E, vinyl clad windows that are 36” x 54”).  You would need to break down all rooms and types/styles.  Be a little creative here and don’t use the same window/door style in entire house.

Sound Insulation (Interior Walls):

You will need to determine what type of insulation you will use in the interior walls of the house for sound insulation with the STC (Sound Transmission Class) in mind.
