Zionville man wins $338,787 Cash 5 jackpot

Zionville resident Michael Allen gambled on a $1 Cash 5 ticket and hit the jackpot, taking home $338,787.

Allen bought his winning ticket at the Boone Kangaroo Express on State Farm Road.

He won the prize on Saturday by matching all five white balls.

After the necessary state and federal tax withholdings, Allen took home $241,386 when he showed up to the lottery's headquarters on Monday to claim his reward.

There is a 1 in 962,598 chance of winning the Cash 5 jackpot. The jackpot for Monday is $110,000.

The lottery can earn an average of $2.5 million per day for education thanks to ticket sales from draw games like Cash 5.

The North Carolina Education Lottery claims that the following changes occurred in Watauga County as a result of the $2.3 million earned by the lottery last year:
