Florida Mega Millions jackpot winner expected to be identified this week

The Florida Lottery said that it will shortly release the name of the winner of the first half of the October 2022 Mega Millions prize.

One person at a 7-Eleven in California and the other at a 7-Eleven in Fort Myers, Florida, split the $494 million prize from the drawing that took place on October 15, 2022.

Nobody knew for months if the $247.9 million Florida portion of the jackpot had been won.

The Florida Lottery, however, claimed that the Fort Myers winner had stepped forward to collect the reward in a statement emailed to News Channel 8 on Tuesday.

When it was ready to reveal the winner's identity, the lottery indicated it will make additional information public.

Since a new rule was implemented in 2022, lottery winners whose winnings over $250,000 may have their identities temporarily held by the state for a period of 90 days.

Tuesday at 11 p.m. is the time for the upcoming Mega Millions jackpot drawing.

Currently, the jackpot stands at $67 million.
